Excitement on Wheels La Gucima |

From outside the fences of La Gucima, you would think you were about to enter a rock concert, from all the raucous cheering, screaming, and applause that escapes the crowd and inadvertently greets each person that arrives. But upon entering, you see no head bangers, no electric guitars: just a racecar stadium filled with wildly enthusiastic fans.
The crowd is mixed, composed of at least 1/3 women and another portion of children of all ages that play on the grass or "oooo" "ahhh," and giggle with thrill at the rapidly passing racecars that create gushes of wind that never cease to tickle them. Alter talking to people in the crowd, I realized many of the people there were no strangers to La Gucima and immediately buy tickets to a race whenever one will be taking place.
They attend the races religiously, but why wouldn't they? A day at the racetrack means time for relaxation for some, the opportunity to spend time with friends or family for others, and a time of fun and enjoyment for all. Throughout the day, different races took place for different levels of driving ski. An amateur group even raced with what obviously were their family cars. |
