Costa Rica will have another World Tournament

It is called "Costa Rica Golf Classic" and contributes with prizes up to 125.000 dollars. Reserva Conchal will be the head court; 130 golfers worldwide will compete.

The boom of sport events in coastal areas of the country keeps adding tournaments to the national calendar. The last one to be added in the list is the Costa Rica Golf Classic, which will be carried out at the end of the year in the court of Reserva Conchal Golf Club, in Playa Conchal, Guanacaste.

The contest is strictly for professionals and it has made it possible for the country to re-appear in the world scenario due to the fact that the new Costa Rican tournament received the support of the TLA (Tour de las Amricas) and the Canadian Tour: both institutions added it to their dates as a part of an official circuit tour to be celebrated at the end of the year.

Apart from being the first joint tour between TLA and Canadian Tour, the Costa Rica Golf Classic sets up a new beginning for golf in the country. The dates in Conchal are from the 11th to the 14th of December, 2008.

With prizes for a total amount of $ 125.000, the event will be the first high level carried out in the northern region, where several new courts have made the country famous as a golf destination worldwide. Both TLA and Canadian Tour, associate members of the PGA Tours International Federation, published on Monday and Tuesday the press releases that made official the three tournament tour, one of them in Costa Rica.

For both tours, Costa Rica Golf Classic 2008 will be the closure of three consecutive tournament tours that will include Chile and Argentina, two countries with a great Latin-American golf tradition. Projection. Ricardo Valdivieso, director of the new Guanacaste tournament, stated that with the guidelines of TLA and Canadian Tour a contract was signed to carry out the contest during three years, that is, it will be extended to 2010.

According to the manager, Costa Rica Classic was created to rescue the old Costa Rica Open.
We created a group of golf fans with the idea of rescuing the Open, which was initially carried out in January, but we wanted to change the philosophy by bringing competitors from all over the continent", explained Valdivieso.
The last edition of Costa Rica Open was carried out two years ago.

It is foreseen that the "pampero" court will house the 65 best golfers both from TLA and Canadian Tours; golfers will be selected in the money list, that is, the list of players that won more money during the year.

In the tournament will also take part representatives from Europe and Asia.

6 Costa Rican golfers will take part in the contest. They will be selected in a tournament that will be carried out between October and November. Costa Rica Classic prizes increase by 10% every year.
