Costa Rica Melico Salazar Theater
Melico Salazar Theater
Built in 1927, the Melico Salazar Theater (named for Costa Rican operatic tenor Manuel "Melico" Salazar 1887-1950).features intricate Parisian influenced architecture and perfect acoustics. It was initially intended to be Movie Theater; in fact, it presented the first motion picture ever shown in the country. It currently provides a stage for performing artists and visitors are welcome to relax in its historical coffee shop. The theater is beautifully decorated with elegant balconies, luxurious furniture, and marble columns, stands San Jose's second major performance hall (after the Teatro Nacional). It is definitely a place to enjoy while passing through San Jose.
