La olla (the kettle) is the national dish of Costa Rica. It's a soup made of beef and vegetables and anything else that's tossed into the kettle. For dessert have some tropical fruit. Plenty of interesting fruits such as bananas grow in the country's warm, wet climate. Costa Rica sells most of its bananas to other countries, but many ticos pick their own fruit! Other tropical fruits include mangoes, papayas, pineapples, and passion fruits. And then there's the akee, a pink skinned fruit that tastes like scrambled eggs. Or how about the pejibaye, a bright orange fruit that's boiled and topped with mayonnaise? Of course you could always try a chiverre. The inside of this fruit looks like spaghetti!
