"Mangos, lleve los mangos bien baraticos..." shouts
the mango vendor.
A phrase like this one might be one of the first things that submerge you in the colorful mosaic of the farmer's market, known as the feria del agricultor. Here, rural workers get together once a week in cities and towns around the country where they offer their freshest produce.
The din grows as salespersons try to shout above their competitors. Curious buyers, many of whom begin to gather at sunrise, taste, touch and find the best prices.
The aroma of fresh tropical fruits and vegetables also plays a central role, as does the myriad of colors that jumps out like a feast for your eyes. An apple's brilliant red, a pale-green cas, or the intense purple of a beet are but a few of the colors you'll find at the feria.
The farmer's market is without a doubt the best place to get fresh, high-quality products (at excellent prices), as well as being part of a tradition that is part of the Costa Ricans' lifestyle.
