Hermosa Beach
Playa Hermosa, meaning beautiful beach, is appropriately named, this 1.5 k crescent of gray sand beach is fringed by green trees throughout the year and is seldom rowded. The trees offer shade from the ever present aun and the rocky headlands at each end of the beach provide great tide pools to explore. This beautiful, blue flag (ecological award for safety and cleanliness) beach is one of the best swimming beaches on the west coast, with a gentle surf and no undertow. It is particularly clean, maintained by the Playa Hermosa Association of resident and businesses.
While walking the beach in the morning you may see someone hired by the Association, cleaning the beach and emptying the garbage from the 15 barrels placed along the beach. This, combined with the laid-back attitude of residents and tourists alike, makes Playa Hermosa a truly tranquil and peaceful destination.
